AN OPEN LETTER TO COVID 19

DEAR COVID 19,

I know you came as a harmless organism passing through my space just to have a feel of how it is to be within living beings. It is fine. Besides, you have already made yourself at home so no problem but let’s go through some facts.

Right from the word go when you started your tour, one thing has been key, that is, the fact that you like to dominate and if possible conquer.  Some say you were created. Others perceive you evolved and a lot more think you just happened. Well, to me, all I know is that you are here and not so welcome.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not here to bruise your ego because to every bad there is certainly some good. For instance the way you have brought world leaders together to think and help each other. The rich becoming equal with the poor because there is nowhere to run to thus left with no option but to donate so we all move out of the pandemic.

Talk of the mass number calling on their god and the unrepentant seeking ways to right their wrongs. Families are beginning to value each other and bosses knowing the essence of staff. Christians are out taking advantage to win souls and the atheist are asking if they should review their religious stance.

My people are wondering “is this doomsday or we should expect your cousin; Hantavirus?  The self actualist are asking, "have we achieved it all or there were some unsettled businesses"? Some busybodies who juggled with too many activities and left their relationships in despair are asking would have life have been different if gave their partners and family more time.So you see all around there are just questions with no answers.

It is said you are tiny but looking around the planet you have evaded you are nothing short of small but indeed power filled. You have changed what journalists considered prominent in terms of news by making headlines across the globe. In sports you cancelled games alongside visiting coaches and players. In politics, you postponed indefinitely upcoming elections and new registrations. In education, schools are on an unending vacations making do with online classes and even marriages and religious activities seem to take a place second after you.

Oh Indefatigable Corona, HOW DESTRUCTIVE ARE YOUR WORKS!

 Starting from a small town in the East Asian country of China, I believe your dream and desire was to explore the world. Visiting public places while hiding within travelers just so your dream of world exploration could materialize. Ayekoo!

Community spread took you places you never would have reached on your own and with places where culture and family relations were prioritized, social distancing was never ideal to keep you at bay.

We ignored you when the first scientist exposed your existence but you were clever buying time to launch a full attack. The world made merry and mocked saying how could it be? Perhaps that got you angry and per our negligence your army was established.

Like doomsday you have arrived leaving behind not only deaths along with packages of fear, panic, hunger, collapsing economy, over tasking health care, loss of jobs, little or no salary, no markets, food and perhaps no water too.

But then I sit and analyse and wonder how come sources say you came from an animal, tiny unseen yet powerful enough to take the world by surprise. Now we heed and kotow to your dictates revolving and reorganizing just so we would not meet you. Your presence has even made security personnel expected to chase criminals to rather be on the street chasing individuals to keep indoors just so we limit recruitment into your growing kingdom…..oh treacherous ruler!

I look at world rulers around following stories and updates on news channels and can’t help but be blown away. Oh how the mighty have fallen! At times just looking at people who are well known globally in terms of sports, governance, entertainment, etc, who have been infected(princes,prime ministers,presidents, footballers, coaches,actors) i cant help but think you came with a death wish list marking them off as you go. Perhaps with particular interest in sports.

Our religious folks say you are a terror sent from the creator to remind humanity that we don’t own ourselves. We used to give excuses with the resources he blessed us with that we have no time so the takes away the things that gave us the excuses and still we struggling with ways to meet him.

I’m amazed how everything seems meaningless now and how quickly our priorities have changed. The certs, titles, money, houses and properties seem useless as we strive just to be in good health.

Schools closing, religious activities cancelled, people quarantined and countries on lockdown I ask “what is next for the world?’

Having poured my heart out considering the state of the world, I hope you now you will agree when I inquire, “don’t you think you have over stayed your welcome”?
